Joe Maddon to the Cubs?

Joe Maddon sudden resignation from the Tampa Bay Rays was stunning. After his friend General Manager Andrew Friedman left the Rays to head to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Maddon suddenly decided to use his opt out clause in his contract.
Where does Maddon go from here? How about the Chicago Cubs? The Cubs have a manager in Rick Renteria and the Cubs would have to pay a lot of money to make him go away. However, that is a small price to pay.

The Cubs have some of the best prospects in baseball, and Maddon knows how to get the best out of  a young Rays team. Maddon is a two time AL manager of the year with the Rays.

In closing, do not put anything past Theo Epstein and Cubs GM Jed Hoyer.

Ranking the Potential World Series matchups

1. Royals vs Cardinals
The rematch of the 1985 World Series would be fun to watch.
2. Royals vs Giants
Would be a nice pitching duel of a World Series.
3. Orioles vs Cardinals
An offensive showdown between two hot offenses.
4. Orioles vs Giants
Nelson Cruz vs Brandon Belt. Two hot offenses with bad bullpens should lead to some exciting finishes.

Baseball Has a big problem

I love the game of baseball, but it has a problem. In an era now when millions of americans are cutting the cable cord, the only postseason games that will be seen on free tv will be the World Series on Fox. Postseason games will be seen on ESPN, Fox Sports 1 and TBS. Baseball moved almost exclusively to cable because it paid the most, but less eyes on the game is always a bad thing.

RIP Tony Gwynn

Tony Gwynn has passed away at the age of 54. Sad news for baseball fans everywhere. Perhaps the most consistent hitter that ever lived. He was inducted into the Hall Of Fame in 2007 along with Cal Ripken Jr. A man who reached the 3,000 hit club. I also enjoyed Gwynn's work as a broadcaster for TBS during the 2008 postseason.

NFL Draft Thoughts

So, the first round of the NFL Draft was held on Thursday and here are some observations:

JADEVEON CLOWNEY goes to the Houston Texans and forms potentially a pass rush with J.J. Watt that could keep the rest of the AFC South up at night. Watch out Andrew Luck!

BLAKE BORTLES goes from Florida to play College Football to play in Florida for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Bortles put on a show against Baylor, and his stock kept rising since then.

TEDDY BRIDGEWATER slipped all the way to almost the bottom of the first round, where he was picked up by the Minnesota Vikings. So I guess this means the Vikings are no longer Pondering their Quarterback future.

JOHNNY MANZIEL will now be the next Cleveland Browns Quarterback to save their team. First it was Tim Couch, then Jeff Garcia, then Brady Quinn, then Colt McCoy, and now, Manziel. Good luck Johnny Football!

DEREK CARR will not be drafted by the Houston Texans after all like I was hoping. The Raiders picked him up in the second round. David Carr would have been a good QB if he would have had a good offensive line around him in Houston. Let's hope Derek doesn't get subjected to the same fate.

Three Things the Dallas Cowboys need to do tonight....

1. Draft a Defensive End to replace the loss of DeMarcus Ware
2. Draft a Linebacker to backup Sean Lee in case of injury.
3. Don't draft a Quarterback! We need defensive help much more. Draft Romo's replacement next season if you can.

NBA Throws the Book at Donald Sterling

Clippers Owner Donald Sterling was just BANNED FOR LIFE from the Los Angeles Clippers Organization.

He was also fined the MAXIMUM fine of $2.5 Million dollars, according to the NBA Constitution.

An appropriate punishment in my book for his racist remarks.

I'm just glad he is not killing my Cubs any longer.

Video: Umpires review the count, Get it wrong!

The umpires at the Twins-Rays game last night apparently weren't doing a good job.

They lost track of the count, reviewed it via replay and STILL GOT IT WRONG!

Wrigley Field Turns 100 Years Old | Chicago Cubs 2014 News | The New Yor...

Wrigley Field turns 100 years old today. Wow!

August 14, 2002 was my first Cubs game at Wrigley Field. Cubs lost, what else is new?

So much about Wrigley is awesome: The Ivy covered walls, the hand operated scoreboard, the skyline of Chicago, and even the rooftop owners across the street.

Cubs have won the first two games against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and will look to keep that going starting at 1:20 PM CST today.

MLB Preview: NL Central

ST LOUIS CARDINALS: The St Louis Cardinals have been the class of the National League Central since Tony La Russa was their manager. This continues now with Mike Matheny as the new manager.  The Redbirds made it back to the World Series last year before falling to the Red Sox. They traded away 3B David Freese to the Angels for OF Peter Borjos.

PITTSBURGH PIRATES: The Pirates really put it all together last season with 94 wins, as OF Andrew McCuthen showcased his skills to the world. PNC Park is perhaps the most beautiful ballpark not named Wrigley. Can the Pirates shock Baseball again?

CHICAGO CUBS: When a 66-96 team does not make a single significant improvement in the offseason, that is when you know "Wait till Next Year, Cubs fans."  Jorge Soler, Albert Almora, and Javier Baez are coming, maybe late 2015 at the earliest. Until then, expect the non-contending Cubs to be sellers at the deadline yet again this year.

CINCINNATI REDS: The Reds have a new manager, promoting Pitching Coach Bryan Price to manager and canning Dusty Baker. OF Billy Hamilton is finally in the big leagues. Can he get on base enough to steal 100 in the Major Leagues? OF Jay Bruce and 1B Joey Votto are perhaps the best 1-2 punch in the entire National League.

MILWAUKEE BREWERS: Ryan Braun comes back this season. Was his previous seasons a Performance Enhanced Mirage? The Brewers are trying to be competitive, signing former Rangers and Cubs ace SP Matt Garza.

DIVISION WINNER: Cardinals.

Pros & Cons Of The WWE Network

Pros:
Every WWE PPV (As of TLC 2013)
Every WCW and ECW PPV as well
Can look up searches by wrestler OR move they performed (EX: Natalya & Bret Hart Sharpshooter)
Every PPV upconverted to High Definition
LIVE WWE Main Event & WWE NXT Shows in High Definition (Plus Wrestlemania)
Only Ten bucks a month (with six month commitment)

Cons:
Kept timing out on my Roku
While the idea of WWE Network on my phone is cool, I would never watch anything on such a small screen.
No WWE Documentaries (Gotta keep Netflix for that I guess.)
Three month wait for the latest TV Event or PPV (Hulu Plus still gets priority)

Overall, would I get this WWE Network? In the words of Daniel Bryan, "YES! YES! YES! YES!" Ten bucks a month (with six month commitment) would be great to watch the LIVE Wrestlemania.

The Chicago Cubs Have A New Mascot

Hell Has Frozen Over.

For the first time in over a century, the Chicago Cubs have a mascot.

CLARK THE CUB.

Not sure how I feel  about this. However, young Cubs fans would probably like the mascot a lot, and truly, maybe the Cubs will become a good team by the time these fans grow up.
