What An Amazing End To The USA-Algeria Match!

Wow! You could not say enough about the performance of Team USA yesterday against Algeria! They had their chances, but each time the goalkeeper would deny them. It seemed to be that way as well on the Clint Dempsey shot, but Landon Donovan rocketed the ball into the net to send the USA on to the top of Group D!

Unbelievable! From elimination to Top of Group D!

Video: Lou Piniella Has A Problem With Steve Stone

White Sox announcer Steve Stone ripped Lou Piniella for not playing outfielder Tyler Colvin more.

That set off Lou Piniella, and he had another meltdown. Check it out below!

"We've got a lot of people people here that haven't managed and won any games in the big leagues that know everything," Piniella said before Friday's game against the White Sox. "I think they should try to put the uniform on and try this job, and see how they like it when they get criticized unjustly. That's all I've got to say about that issue."

But Lou didn't stop there.
"And another thing I'm going to say — I won over 1,800 games as a manager, and I'm not a damn dummy,That, I can tell you. OK? There are only 13 others that have won more games than me, so I guess I think I know what the hell I'm doing. All right?"

He then put a face on his critics, saying that Steve Stone has "enough problems doing what he does with the White Sox."

"What job has he had in baseball besides talking on television or radio?" Piniella asked. "What has he done? Why isn't he a farm director and bring some kids around? Why isn't he a general manager? Why hasn't he ever put the uniform on and been a pitching coach? Why hasn't he been a field manager? There's 30 teams out there that could use a guy's expertise like that, you know? I'm tired of some of these guys, I really am."

I have gotta say that Lou is right on this issue. I remember when Steve Stone was the Cubs analyst, alongside Chip Caray (And Harry Caray before that.) It is very convenient to say "A team needs to do this" from afar. If Stoney ever does put on a uniform, I think that would give a whole different perspective on the talking heads on Television.

Lou is right on in ripping Stone, but the Cubs have dropped the first two of a nine game stand, all against American League Teams. This is a make or break series for them.

What's the big deal? I think that Kosuke Fukudome and Xavier Nady will be gone next season anyway, and Tyler Colvin will be the Cubs starting Right Fielder in 2011.

Streak Alive! Wittels Gets A Hit in 55th Straight Game

With his team trailing by nine runs, there was little reason for Garrett Wittels to take a pitch. So the Florida International infielder swung away on a 3-0 count _ and moved within three games of history.

Wittels is two away one away from the MLB record 56 game hit streak, set by Joe DiMaggio. He is three away from the NCAA record set by Robin Ventura.

Major League Scouts are surely going to keep an eye on this kid.

Lakers-Celtics Set To Battle In NBA Finals

Here we go again.
The Lakers and the Celtics will face off for the NBA championship.
This will be the 12th time they they battle for the title. The Celtics lead 9-2 in the Finals, and they actually lead the regular season series as well 152-120.
So what does all this mean? If history teaches us anything, the Celtics will win.
First of all, these are the same Celtics that beat Kobe and the Lakers in 2008. The Lakers are pretty much the same except for the addition of Ron Artest. The Celtics bullied the Lakers two years ago. That's not going to change, even if the Lakers are tougher w/ Artest, the self-proclaimed True Warrior.
Second, the Lakers don't have an answer for Rondo. Sure Derek Fisher has faced Russell Westbrook, Deron Williams, and Steve Nash, but Rondo is has been playing at a high level since the first round. That's not going to change in the Finals.
Finally, the Celtics have run past Dwayne Wade, Lebron James, and Dwight Howard this post season. Kobe and the Lakers are going to be the cherry on top. The Celtics are playing their best basketball at the best time. They are running on all cylinders.

So they don't have home court advantage, but they have history.

James Flora
(I'm inclined to agree with James. Game One of the NBA Finals is tonight on ABC.)
