Phils' Halladay Tosses 2nd Perfect Game of Year

Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay tossed the second perfect game in the majors this season, mowing down the Marlins in Florida Saturday. It's the second perfect game and 10th no-hitter in Phillies history.

Tim Kurkjian talks about Halladay's Perfecto.

Phillies play-by-play announcer Tom McCarthy reacts to Roy Halladay's perfect game and what it means to the Phillies.

Congrats to Roy Halladay on his Perfect Game. He was really working the ball well, throwing it all over the strike zone. All the Marlins could do was shake their heads.

My First Interleague Game!

I took a trip to Arlington Texas this past weekend. I saw the Chicago Cubs take on the Texas Rangers. It is my first Interleague Baseball Game! Before the game, the trolley from the hotel that was supposed to take us to the ballpark was over an hour late! We finally arrived at the ballpark at about 6:50 PM. The PA announcer was going over the starting lineups when we walked in. Our seats were in the Center Field Bleachers. I could not believe my eyes. The Chicago Cubs, for the first time since August 14, 2002, were right in front of me! I was so eager to get the ballgame started. I saw Texas get past a leadoff walk to end the top of the first, then saw Ted Lilly have a dominant outing against the Rangers bats. Cubbies had runners at first and third in the second when the Shortstop (Starlin Castro) grounded into a 6-4-3 Double Play to bring a run across, 1-0 Cubs. The Rangers would come back in the fourth inning. I was actually in line buying a soda when this play happened, but I saw the replay on one of the TVs. The Cubs third baseman threw the ball wide of our first baseman. Our Second Baseman then threw the ball wide to third, allowing the runner(Ian Kinsler) to head all the way to third. (The Ballpark went Crazy!) Vladamir Guererro hit a long fly ball to left for a double, tying the game at 1. Guererro would then be brought around with a double, giving the Rangers a 2-1 lead. There were no homeruns hit by either side.

Fast forward to the top of the eighth. The Cubs have hit back to back singles. Then, the ball gets away from the catcher, allowing the runner to move up all the way to third! I remember thinking "All The Cubs need is a base hit to tie it!" Our Second baseman (Mike Fontenot) hit a ball down the Left field line that I thought was going to at least tie the game....Then the ball went just foul, by an Inch! I kid you not! Fontenot then struck out looking to end the inning. I remember telling my dad "That was our best chance and we wasted it."

Go to the Top of the ninth. The Rangers then bring in their closer with an electric fastball, Neftali Feliz. I said "Oh No! This kid Feliz can throw 100 with regularity!" "That may be, but how's his control?"said my dad. "He's Still working on that." I said. This kid was regularly reaching 96 on the radar. I have never heard the Mitt pop like it did when Feliz was pitching! That was unreal! A groundball to second for one out. Cubs call up a pinch hitter. He hits a double into right. I said "All they need is a hit!" A ball was hit foul down the right field line, but the outfielder (Nelson Cruz) made a spectacular leaping catch at the wall for the second out! That allowed the runner to move up to third. Then Kosuke Fukudome ended the game by popping up to shortstop Elvis Andrus to end the game.

I had a blast at the ballpark, and more importantly, my family did as well.

The Cubs would go on to win the next two games and win the series.

Will Lebron James Stay Or Go?

Check It Out! James Flora shares his thoughts on the LeBron Sweepstakes.

Lebron James led his team to the most wins in the league again. He won the MVP again. And he exited the playoffs earlier than expected again.

This is not the repeat he wanted.

So now what? Does he stay? Does he go?

These are just a few of the questions every NBA fan is asking. More importantly, these are questions Lebron must answer.

Obviously, the Cavs want to keep Lebron. So what do they do after another disappointing season? They fire their head coach, Mike Brown, after back to back seasons of 60 wins. This move brings up another question. Who are they going to get to replace him? The rumor mill is already abuzz. Phil Jackson's name has come up. Although it would be amazing to see Phil team up with Lebron, it doesn't seem realistic, especially if the Lakers repeat. However, if there's any chance he'll leave LA, the Cavs will jump on it.

From the outside looking in, we know Lebron is loyal so the Cavs have home court advantage, if that means anything, and they can offer him the most money. Hopefully, they can keep him for a few more years.
Yet the bright lights and the big city are calling his name. The best basketball player in the world playing in the biggest city in the world? That's hard to pass up.

There's a lot to consider and weigh for Lebron. A lot of people are going to be happy and sad whatever he decides.

James Flora

Oakland's Dallas Braden Throws Perfect Game

Athletics lefty Dallas Braden threw the 19th perfect game in major league history, in a 4-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday. It's the team's first perfect game in 42 years.

Before this perfect game, the only thing many fans knew Dallas Braden for was his spat with A-Rod for running across "his" mound. He was King Of The Hill yesterday against the Rays.

How could the Rays let another lefty throw a perfect game against them in a ten month span?

Congrats to Dallas Braden on the Perfect Game.

The Future Is Now!

Starlin Castro has been called up to The Chicago Cubs, according to ESPNChicago.com.

Castro will join the team in Cincinnati.

Ryan Theriot is expected to move to second base to make room for the 20 year old phenom.

The Cubs need something to improve their defense. They commited three errors against the Pirates in the finale of that three game series. Aramis Ramirez has yet to start hitting, so the Cubs had to make this move.

The future is now for the Cubs!

Ernie Harwell DIes

Long-time Detroit Tigers play-by-play broadcaster Ernie Harwell has died at age 92 after battling inoperable cancer of the bile duct.

RIP Ernie Harwell

Ernie Harwell, The legendary voice of the Detroit Tigers has passed away. He was 92. Harwell did Tigers games for 42 years. Harwell will be remembered for his legendary catchphrases like:

A Double Play: "two for the price of one"
Homeruns were "looong gone!"
Called third strikes:(he) "stood there like a house by the side of the road."

Ernie Harwell gave his farewell to the fans on September 17,2009. Here it is in it's entirety.

Here is Ernie Harwell's legendary "This Is Baseball Speech"

Harry Caray, Skip Caray, Harry Kalas, and now Ernie Harwell. Another one of the all time great broadcasters is now "Long Gone!" Bob Uecker, Vin Scully, and Milo Hamilton are the only ones left that I would consider all time great baseball announcers.

In spite of it all, Ernie Harwell had a strong Christian faith which never wavered during his cancer. May God Bless Ernie's family, and may God Bless everyone who was lucky enough to listen to him announce a game.
