Lee, Utley Lead Phillies Past Yankees, 6-1
Cliff Lee continued his postseason mastery and Chase Utley homered twice off CC Sabathia as the Phillies beat the Yankees, 6-1, Wednesday in Game 1 of the World Series.
Baseball Tonight breaks down Cliff Lee's Domination of the Yankee Hitters.
This was the perfect start for the Phillies. They wanted to win at least one in New York. The tide will really be in Philly's favor if they take Two from them, which is a definite possibility with Pedro Martinez going for the Phillies tonight! I picked New York to win in seven games, but they did not look good in that opening game!
Cliff Lee just schooled the Yankee batters. Cliff Lee was so good, he Nonchalantly caught pop ups that were hit his way and even made an amazing behind the back flip! That one run was unearned, coming on a throwing error by Jimmy Rollins in the ninth that allowed Derek Jeter to score the Yankees only run.

2009 World Series Preview
The 2009 World Series is finally here! The Philladelphia Phillies, winners of last year's World Series, are playing the New York Yankees, who have made it back here thanks to the performnaces of guys like A-Rod, C.C. Sabathia, and Mark Texiera.
The Phillies and Yankees played each other in Yankee Stadium back in May, with the Phillies taking two of three games from the Yankees. Afterwards, Phillies Shortstop Jimmy Rollins said the following:"
How great would that be? A World Series here, us against the Yankees? We've proved we can put on a pretty good show." Rollins last night made a prediction about how he thinks the World Series will go:
"If we're nice, we'll let it go six. But I'm thinking five, close it out at home."
Here is a position by position breakdown to see which team has the edge:
FIRST BASE: Ryan Howard Vs Mark Teixiera
Both Howard and Texiera have been clutch this season. Both players have stepped up when their team has needed them. Texiera hit a walkoff homerun in Game Two of the American League Division Series.
SECOND BASE: Chase Utley Vs Robinson Cano
Chase Utley is baseball's best Second baseman. Robinson Cano is a pretty good double play guy at second base.
THIRD BASE: Alex Rodriguez vs Pedro Feliz
A-Rod has been on a tear this postseason. He is the best third baseman in the game.
SHORTSTOP:Jimmy Rollins vs Derek Jeter
Although Derek Jeter may be baseball's most decorated shortstop, Jimmy Rollins is a pretty good player in his own right.
LEFT FIELD: Raul Ibanez vs Hideki Matsui/Johnny Damon
Raul Ibanez has been a real nice signing for the Phillies. Matsui and Damon have both hit well and played well in left.
CENTER FIELD: Shane Victorino Vs Melky Cabrera
Shane Victorino has done it all for the Phillies this year. He has hit homers and stolen bases, Victorino is the heart of the Phillies lineup.
RIGHT FIELD: Nick Swisher vs Jayson Werth
Jayson Werth hit two homeruns in the clinching NLCS Game Five. Swisher may be the most laid back guy in the Yankee Clubhouse.
CATCHER: Jorge Posada Vs Carlos Ruiz
Carlos Ruiz is the second best catcher in the National League, behind Yadier Molina. Jorge Posada is a veteran backstop. It's just a a shame that he and A.J. Burnett can't get on the same page.
CLOSER: Mariano Rivera vs Brad Lidge
Brad Lidge was perfect in the regular season and postseason last year. This year, Lidge led all of baseball with ten blown saves. Mariano Rivera is the greatest closer in the history of baseball. He is almost unbeatable on that mound in the ninth inning.
Here is my pick for the winner of the 2009 World Series.
NEW YORK YANKEES
The Phillies are good, but the Yankees are better. The Yankees are going to win this series, but Philly will play hard. I am expecting the Yankees to win this series in six or seven games, but they will win it all.

Rudy Jaramillo Is The Cubs New Hitting Coach!
The Chicago Cubs have named former Texas Rangers hitting instructor Rudy Jamarillo their new batting coach.
The deal is reported to be worth $2.42 Million over three years.
Jaramillo has worked with current Cubs Alfonso Soriano and Milton Bradley when they were Rangers. Milton Bradley led the Major Leagues in On Base Percentage in 2008 under Jaramillo.
Jaramillo left the Rangers after only being offered a one year contract. The Rangers could not offer more due to their ownership situation.
If anybody can help turn around what was a real pathetic offense for the Cubs this past season, Rudy Jaramillo is that guy. He has worked with some premier talent when he was with Texas.
This is a fantastic move by Cubs GM Jim Hendry and new owner Joe Ricketts.

Friday Night MLB Recaps
The Yankees Mark Teixeira homered in the bottom of the 11th for a 4-3 win over the Twins and a 2-0 ALDS lead
Just when it looked like Minnesota had a series evening victory, Alex Rodriguez crushed the spirit of Twins fans watching when he hit a towering two run homerun off Twins closer Joe Nathan. Mark Teixiera hit a line drive homerun that hopped over the wall and into the first row of seats for a walkoff homerun!
The Angels pitching has dominated the Red Sox. The best news for them is that Game Three is at Fenway Park, but the Red Sox need to start hitting!

Chris Singleton and Peter Gammons break down the Rockies' Game 2 win.
Cole Hamels just didn't have it yesterday. Yorvit Torrealba crushed a two run homerun off him that seemed to turn the tide early, and Colorado never looked back. They now head to their ballpark with the series all even.
Chris Singleton and Eric Young talk about how the Matt Holliday error was the turning point for the Dodgers in the ninth inning.
The Cardinals looked like they were going to take Game Two of this series, but the Holliday error led to the blown save by Ryan Franklin. Now the best news for St Louis is that Game Three is at home, but will it be their last game of the 2009 season?
Red Sox-Angels
The Angels pitching dominated. John Lackey was lights-out. The best news for the Red Sox is that Josh Beckett is back, but how is his back? He opposes Jared Weaver tonight in game Two.

Game One Victories Broken Down
Karl Ravech and Chris Singleton break down the Phillies Game One Victory.
What a dominating performance by Cliff Lee in his postseason debut. He really did it all for the Phils in their game one victory. Not only did he throw a complete game in his postseason debut, but he also got on base and actually Stole second base! Let's not forget that Cliff Lee had a shutout going until Two outs in the ninth inning! Cliff Lee was Scary Good!
BTW, The Phillies have the 2008 World Series MVP, Cole Hamels, going for them today.
Twins Vs Yankees
Although the Twins managed to scratch across two runs in the first inning, you just got the feeling that the Bronx Bombers would live up to their name, and they did that. Derek Jeter hit a two run game tying homer, and then "Godzilla" Hideki Matsut hit a towering shot to center field that ended up in New Monument Park!
A-Rod brought two runners who were in scoring position around to score, and I just get the feeling that this club may just overpower Minnesota in the ALDS.
Cardinals Vs Dodgers
Chris Carpenter did not show up last night. After Matt Kemp hit the two run homerun, the Dodgers never looked back. They managed to keep Albert Pujols in the ballpark, and Matt Holliday just looked overmatched at the plate in game one. The Cardinals will have to face 22 year old Curveball specialist Clayton Kershaw in Game Two.
Will The Dodgers Sweep an NL Central Team for the second straight season?
