What Could Be America's Biggest Soccer Match Ever

Today is the final of the FIFA Confederation Cup between the USA and Brazil.

The Americans have never won a FIFA tournament. This is the first time they’ve even made it to a final. The United States has beaten Brazil only once in 14 tries, and that 1-0 victory came in Los Angeles in the semifinals of the 1998 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Think back to a week ago, when the USA played Brazil. The Highlights are below.

The USA suffered a 3-0 beatdown at the hands of Brazil.

The USA will have to try to beat Kaka, Robinho and Luis Fabiano, some of the World's best players, and they will have to do it without Michael Bradley, who was sent off with a red card in the final minutes of the USA's 2-0 victory over Spain.

This Could Be America's Biggest Soccer Match Ever, and I can't wait to see it later today!

Mark DeRosa On The Move

Two daggers for Cubs fans to deal with today.

Fist, the Gordon Beckham walkoff hit propelled the White Sox to an 8-7 victory over the Cubs. Now, Cubs fans are dealing with the news that Mark DeRosa, the team's best player from last season, has been traded from the Indians to the Cardinals, the Cubs archrival.

This season, DeRosa was hitting .270 with 13 homers and 50 RBIs.

DeRosa was traded for fireballer Chris Perez. Perez has a 4.18 ERA in 29 appearances with a 1-1 record and one save.

Chris Perez will join Cleveland's bullpen immediately.

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa has had a revolving door of third baseman this season, he gets a guy who can play all over the infield and outfield.

Mark DeRosa was traded from the Cubs (the Cubs claim money was an issue, but I don't buy it), and now he will join the Cardinals.

On a secondary note, Cubs fans probably wish they could press the rewind button on their offseason. They lose DeRosa, sign the overrated hothead Milton Bradley to a ludicrous contract, refuse to re-sign longtime Cub Kerry Wood and trade a kid who may have been the next C.C. Sabathia for a closer who tops out at 80 MPH in Kevin Gregg.

Don't call these offseason moves another Cubby Occurrence.

Call them what they are, Cubby Stupidity!

Alex Rodriguez Passes A Yankee Legend

Alex Rodriguez hit career homerun number 564, surpassing Reggie Jackson on the all time homerun list last night.

The Windy City Showdown is under way this weekend. The Cubs played the White Sox, and Milton Bradley is alienating people. After hos 0-3 performance, he became the latest Cub to attack the water cooler. He then got into an argument with manager Lou Piniella, who told him to change clothes and leave. Milton is expected back in the lineup tommorow.

Andre Ethier put on a show at Chavez Ravine as the Dodgers beat the Mariners.

Shaq Traded to Cleveland, Will Play With LeBron

LeBron is about to get some help, in a big way.

The Cavaliers have traded to get Shaquille O'Neal from the Phoenix Suns.

The Cavaliers wil get Shaquille O'Neal, and the Suns will get Sasha Pavlovic and Ben Wallace.

Pavlovic may be waived, and Ben Wallace is considering retiring.

LeBron just got some big help in the rebounding department. I can't wait to see Shaq face off against Dwight Howard! That's gonna be awesome!

Team USA Has Pulled Off A Miracle!

Team USA came in looking to shock the Socer World.

They pulled it off in dramatic fashion.

Jozy Altidore scored the first goal in the 27th minute.

In the 74th minute, Landon Donovan launched a beautiful pass to Clint Dempsey, who put in the back of the net for the second goal of the game.

Michael Bradley was sent off in the 87th minute with a red card. He will be suspended for the Final of the Confederations Cup.

This win propels the USA to their first final since play began in 1916, according to the AP.

The USA will now play the Winner of the Brazil-South Africa match on Sunday.

To put this win in perspective, had set an international record with 15 straight victories and had tied Brazil's record unbeaten streak of 35 games from December 1993 to January 1996, according to the AP.

The USA was 1-7-1 against the number one team in the world, beating Brazil in the 1998 CONCAF Gold Cup.

The Brazil-South Africa match will take place later today.

All of the stats from that game favor Spain! The USA took only two shots on goal in that match, and they both went in, compared to six shots on goal for Spain. What a job of goalkeeping by Tim Howard!

Wow!The USA pulled off perhaps the biggest upset since The Miracle On Ice!

Spurs To Get New Member of Big Three

Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, and..Richard Jefferson? It will reportedly happen.
The Milwaukee Bucks will reportedly trade forward Richard Jefferson to the San Antonio Spurs for Bruce Bowen, Kurt Thomas and Fabricio Oberto.

This trade will give the Spurs some financial flexibility.

Tony Parker and Tim Duncan were in desperate need of a third person to step up and replace Manu Ginobili during the playoffs.

Bruce Bowen was a great shooter and defender, but his best days are behind him.

Fabricio Oberto should bring the Bucks a good defensive presence.

Overall, I like this trade from the Spurs perspective.

The USA Is Incredibly, Moving On In the FIFA Confederations Cup

It seemed like an impossible Scenario.

For the USA to move on in the FIFA Confederations Cup, the USA had to beat Egypt by three goals and Brazil had to beat Italy by three goals.

Incredibly, both Scenarios happened.

The USA played with a lot of heart. Thay played the kind of match USA Soccer fans had been wanting, begging. Charlie Davies, Michael Bradley and Clint Dempsey combined for the USA's three goals, and the USA beat Egypt 3-0.
Check out the highlights from that match below!

For Brazil and Italy, it was a tale of two fortunes. Contrast Luis Fabiano, who scored two goals for Brazil, with Andrea Dossena, who ended scoring an Own goal to complete Brazil's 3-0 Drubbing of the 2006 World Cup Champions.
Watch the highlights below!

The USA will play Spain on Wednesday.
Brazil will play South Africa on Wednesday also.

Cubs Trail Indians 7-0, Enjoy Wild 8-7 Comeback Win

Mark De Rosa and Kerry Wood were two fan favorites at Wrigley.

Mark De Rosa singled home Cleveland's seventh run. Kerry Wood came on in the ninth after the Cubs cut managd to cut the defecit to 7-6. Kerry Wood then came on to try and stop the bleeding, but then he gave up a game tying homerun to Derrek Lee, Derrek's second homerun of the game.

In the bottom of the tenth inning, Ryan Theriot lined a base hit into right center field to score Alfonso Soriano, and the Cubs comeback for the second straight day and win a barnburner of a baseball game 8-7.

Pedro Martinez set to return?

Reports are coming out of the Dominican Republic that former Mets and Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez is talking with the Chicago Cubs and Tampa Bay Rays and hopes to be signed soon.

Pedro said he wants to sign with a team that has the best chance of playing in October.

Well, from the Cubs standpoint, if they sign Pedro, hopefully Aramis Ramirez will be back and the Cubs offense begins to score runs! What good is pitching if you can't score runs!

However, facing the Yankees again might enable the Rays to sign Pedro, reuniting him with Don Zimmer.
(Remember this from 2003?)

My Reaction to the News That Sammy Sosa Cheated

As you already know, The New York Times is reporting that Sammy Sosa tested positive for steroids back in 2003. This is the same list that brought out A-Rod as a steroid user.
As a Cubs fan who vividly remembers that 2003 season, I feel like I should let you know how a true Cubs fan like myself feels about this news.

Sosa and McGwire were both caught in the magical Homerun chase of 1998. Sosa is the only player in baseball history to hit 60 homeruns thrice.

I want to know who the other 102 names are, and pronto! It doesn't matter to me anymore who tested positive. It's not a suprise. After A-Rod, then Manny, now Sammy. I would still like to know who the rest of the names are.

(For now, refer back to "Can You Believe It has been Ten Years since this Happened?")
("Steroids ruined the game. They have ruined many people's trust in the Homerun, as people want to check the slugger's arms now to see if the homeruns are legit. Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, and Sammy Sosa were all caught in the steroids cloud. It was guilt by Association for them.

In 2005, after Rafael Palmeiro vehemently denied using steroids in front of congress, Major League Baseball then announced that Palmeiro had tested positive for Steroids, continuing to destroy the game. Palmeiro hasn't found a job since.

Steroids have killed the game. It may never again get the same type of mentioning it got back in that Sensational Summer of 1998 because all of us were so blind to what was going on behind the scenes.")

I believe that even more now than I did when I wrote that last September.

Baseball needs to reveal the rest of the list so that Baseball can try, (Key word: TRY) to put "The Steroids Era" behind them. Everyone playing in this era is under suspicion. Just ask Raul Ibanez of the Phillies about suspicion.

I'm not suprised anymore. Bring on the rest of those names so we may find out who else juiced!

The faster baseball reveals the rest of those names, the faster they can move on.

Report: Sosa Failed Drug Test in 2003

The American League Pitchers Are Homering In Interleague Play!

First Josh Beckett homers to help create a tie in Philly.

Then, Mark Buerhle hits his first career homerun!

The American League are enjoying the only time they get to swing the bats, that's for sure!
Beckett was a longtime Marlin who used to be good with the bat, but he hasn't been in the National League since 2005!
Buehrle was a complete suprise to go deep! I guess it just goes to show that when you throw the ball right down the heart of the plate, anyone, even American League Pitchers, can take you deep!

Pittsburgh Penguins Win Stanley Cup In Hockeytown

The Pittsburgh Penguins have done what many thought was impossible.
The Penguins became the first team since the 1971 Montreal Canadiens to win Game Seven of the Stanley Cup on the road.
Max Talbot scored both goals for the Penguins, as they played a fantastic job on the road to thwart the Red Wings goal of repeating as Stanley Cup Champions.

Red Wings fans react to watching the Penguins win the Stanley Cup in their arena.

Yankees Beat Mets On Walk Off Pop-up

You have to see the ending to this game between the Yankees and Mets! The Subway Series was taking place for the first time in New Yankee Stadium. And Luis Castillo gave the Yankees a gift to give them a 9-8 victory.

Milton Bradley's Adventures In The Outfield

Milton Bardley had a tough day today as the Cubs lost to the Twins 7-4 in interleague play. He hit a two run double in the sixth inning, but good starts don't always lead to good finishes, at least in Milton Bradley's case.
An inning later, Milton lost a ball in the sun and was charged with an error an inning later when he made a bonehead play by catching a ball for the second out and throwing it into the bleachers. Milton forgot how many outs there were! The guy makes 10 million a year for the next three seasons and forgets how many outs there are in an inning!
The more I see Bradley play, the more I compare it to Raul Ibanez and how he's playing for the Phillies, there's no comparison in how these two moves have played out for their teams.

Watch the video! Major League Hillarity will follow!

'Big Unit' Joins 300-win Club

"The Big Unit" Randy Johnson reached an exclusive milestone on June 4th, becoming the just the 24th pitcher to reach that lofty plateau.

Here is a tribute Video commemorating all 300 of Randy Johnson's victories.

I have always been a fan of Randy Johnson pitching, but I will always remember when he killed that bird in a Spring Training game. What are the odds of something like that happening? Unbelievable!

Randy Johnson, in the age of five man roatations, pitch counts, and pitch limits, may be the last to win 300 games for at least the next decade. So enjoy the moment because it may be a while before somebody does it again.

Congratulations to Randy Johnson. He's thrown a no-hitter, a Perfect Game, has struck out nearly 5,000 batters, and has now won his 300th game.
