Jon Lester Throws No Hitter Vesus Kansas City Royals
Jon Lester Has Survived Cancer, Pitched in Game Four Of A World Series, and Now Lester has thrown a no-hitter.
Lester had nine strikeouts and walked just two men as Boston Beat Up on The Kansas City Royals 7-0.
The No Hitter would never have happened had it not been for a fantastic diving catch by Jacoby Ellsbury in the fourth inning.
Jason Varitek was behind the plate for this game. Varitek has now caught a record four no hitters. Vartitek caught no hitters from Hideo Nomo, Derek Lowe, Clay Bucholz, and Jon Lester.
Varitek took control of this game and did a great job of commanding pitches and location to Jon Lester.
I Watched the ninth inning on ESPN. They cut into the Astros-Cubs game to show the ninth. I thought Lester was in trouble when he gave up the leadoff walk, but two groundouts later, we all knew Lester was on the verge of doing something amazing.
Speaking of something amazing, I saw Kerry Wood's 20 Strikeout Game against The Astros from 1998 on ESPN Classic before the start of the Astros-Cubs game on ESPN. Both Wood and Lester has great stuff that night. Who had the better night, Wood Or Lester? I Couldn't tell you, but I enjoyed watching both of these fantastic pitching performances.
