New Joe to Replace Torre
Some Yankee fans may have spit out their morning cup of Joe after reading the news this morning...
Joe Girardi is back in pinstripes, taking over as New York Yankees manager from his mentor, Joe Torre.
Girardi was hired Tuesday, agreeing to a three-year contract to replace Joe Torre in New York's dugout.
"I think any of us would be somewhat surprised to get the job because it's such an honor," Girardi said. "I'm extremely excited and thrilled."
The deal is worth an average salary of at least $2 million annually, a baseball official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the team had not yet announced the details.
Girardi was the 2006 NL Manager of the Year with Florida, plus he has a pinstriped pedigree. The hard-nosed catcher played on three Yankees teams that won the World Series, served as their bench coach under Torre and was a TV announcer this year.
Once he was informed Monday that the Yankees had chosen Girardi, Don Mattingly told the team he had no interest in returning next year as bench coach or in any other coaching position.
Which Leads us into our next topic...
The Dodgers want Joe Torre to be their next manager. The question is whether Torre wants to manage again so soon after leaving the Yankees.
At the end of a season, Torre routinely questions how badly he wants to manage the following year. The only difference now is that the Dodgers are waiting for an answer.
If Torre takes the Dodgers' job, it almost certainly would not be for the $7 million salary he earned in his final season with the Yankees, sources say.
The New York Times reported that Don Mattingly, who recently lost out to Joe Girardi in the race to be the next Yankees manager, would join Torre on the Dodgers' staff.
If Joe Torre goes to Los Angeles, Don Mattingly will join him. Will Alex Rodriguez join them both in Los Angeles?

The Greatest Ending In The History of Division III College Football!
The game's final play started simply enough, with Trinity quarterback Blake Barmore dumping a short pass over the middle to wide receiver Shawn Thompson.
It ended with Trinity's Riley Curry dashing 44 yards into the end zone for the winning touchdown with no time left on the clock.
In between the touches by Thompson and Curry, it was 46 seconds of pure craziness.
Trinity 28, Millsaps 24
"Miracle in Mississippi" - College in Jackson, Mississippi on Saturday, October 27, 2007. Play began with 0:02 remaining in the game . Trinity players used a total of 14 laterals to take the ball 61 yards for the game-winning Touchdown! Unbelievable!
I dunno if it ranks up with "Cal vs Stanford: The Band" but for a Division III School, that's the greatest play in the history of Division III College Football!

The Boston Red Sox are the 2007 World Series Champions!
Click on the video below to see the final at bat of the 2007 World Series.
Perched high above his raucous teammates, David Ortiz sprayed bottles of bubbly in every direction, dousing everyone in sight, including himself.
Then it was time to deliver a message.
"When you wear Red Sox on your shirt," he hollered from atop a clubhouse table, "you're good at something."
There's a new monster, and this one's in Boston, too.
Overwhelming in every way, the Red Sox swept to their second title in four years Sunday night. Jon Lester, Mike Lowell & Co. left little room for drama with a 4-3 win over the Colorado Rockies in Game 4.
Then again, no NL team could have blocked Boston this October.
This was hardly a repeat from 2004, when the Red Sox ended their 86-year championship drought by beating St. Louis. Boston is a major league bully these days, playing in rarefied air before crowds who demand to win.
"It doesn't get old," manager Terry Francona said.
Gone are those pleading, pathetic days when the Red Sox were practically begging to win a title. They've got this down pat now.
At this rate, New England fans might get spoiled. Francona's team has become a perfect counterpart to coach Bill Belichick's bruisers on the Patriots.
Mike Lowell won the MVP for the 2007 World Series.

Tessie, you make me feel so badly.
Why don't you turn around?
Tessie, you know I love you madly.
Babe, my heart weighs about a pound.
Don't blame me if I ever doubt you,
You know I wouldn't live without you.
Tessie, you are the only, only, only.

Tessie is the Royal Rooters' rally cry
Tessie is the tune they always sung
Tessie echoed April through October nights
After serenading Stahl, Dineen and Young
Tessie is a maiden with the sparkling eyes
Tessie is a maiden with the love
She doesn't know the meaning of her sight
She's got a comment full of love
And sometimes when the game is on the line
Tessie always carried them away
Up the road from Third Base to Huntington
The boys will always sing and sway
Two! Three! Four!
"Tessie," "Nuff Ced" McGreevy shouted,
"We're not here to mess around
Boston, you know we love you madly
Hear the crowd roar to your sound
Don't blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn't live without you
Tessie, you are the only, only, only"
The Rooters showed up at the grounds one day
They found their seats had all been sold
McGreevey led the charge into the park
Stormed the gates and put the game on hold
The Rooters gave the other team a dreadful fright
Boston's tenth man could not be wrong
Up from "Third Base" to Huntington
They'd sing another victory song
Two! Three! Four!

Alex Rodriguez Opts Out Of New York, Will Move On To "Greener" Pastures
Alex Rodriguez's days in a Yankee Uniform are over.
Alex Rodriguez opted out of his $252 million, 10-year contract with the Yankees on Sunday in what appears to be the end of his career with New York.
Rodriguez's decision, announced by agent Scott Boras during Game 4 of the World Series, makes him eligible to become a free agent.
Rodriguez loses the final $72 million in guaranteed salary in the contract, of which $21.3 million was to be covered by payments from the Texas Rangers to the Yankees. New York had said it would not attempt to re-sign A-Rod if he opted out.
Boras said during a telephone interview Rodriguez made his choice because he was uncertain whether Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte would return to the Yankees.
"Alex's decision was one based on not knowing what his closer, his catcher and one of his statured pitchers was going to do," Boras said. "He really didn't want to make any decisions until he knew what they were going."
Alex Rodriguez will not be back in New York next season. He never really fit in New York, and he was never liked by the fans. Alex Rodriguez will never become a "True Yankee", especially now that his days in a Yankee Uniform are certainly over.
What type of contract will Alex Rodriguwz get? I've been hearing numbers of 10 years, $ 300 Million Dollars, and part ownership of the team! This is a mindboggling contract offer to anybody, including Alex Rodriguez. The only reason I could see a team giving A-Rod a mindboggling deal like this would be because they are thinking about when Alex Rodriguez, if he keeps putting numbers like this for the next five years, breaks Barry Bond's record and becomes the new (and according to many, the true) All-Time Home Run King.
Alex Rodriguez is not coming back to New York. Who will be next to follow him out the door?
(We are currently in the ninth inning of Game Four of the World Series. If The Red Sox hang on and sweep the Rockies, you will see my post on it tommorow, right here on The Power Zone!)

NFL Week Eight Preview
The New Wembley Stadium normally is the host of Soccer Games, but on Sunday, it will play host to the Dolphins and the Giants. In the future, Wembley Stadium may play host to a Super Bowl.
It is time for the NFL Midterm Exam. Get your pencils ready. Make sure they are sharpened. It is time for the Midterm.
Cleveland vs. St. Louis 1:00 PM EST
Cleveland is coming off a bye. Two weeks ago, The Browns lost to the Patriots. The Rams are coming off a loss, as they have not won a game all season. St. Louis and Miami are both in the running to go 0-16, which has never happened in the history of the NFL. I expect both Miami and St. Louis to lose this week, therfore keeping alive their chances to go completely winless.
BROWNS OVER RAMS
Detroit At Chicago 1:00 PM EST
This is Chicago's first meeting with detroit since Detroit spoiled the debut of Brian Griese as Quarterback of the Bears, as the Lions scored an NFL Recod 35 points in the fourth Quarter to beat the Bears. Brian Griese led the Bears on a game winning 95 yard drive last week as the Bears defeated the Philladelphia Eagles. The Lions are coming off a victory over the Buccaneers. I pick Chicago to win because they are at home. The defense will need to step up and they have to contain Calvin Johnson. If they can do that, they win this game.
CHICAGO OVER DETROIT
Indianapolis at Carolina 1:00 PM EST
Vinny Testaverde gets the call to quarterback the Panthers again this week. Indianapolis is hoping to remain undefeated so they can face the Patriots with a 8-0 record. This game against Carolina should be a good game. I expect Indianapolis to win, but if they start going through the mostions, they will lose this game.
INDIANAPOLIS OVER CAROLINA
New York Giants vs Miami Dolphins (THE GAME OF THE WEEK)
This game will be played at the beautiful New Wembley Stadium in London, England. NFL Commisioner Roger Goodell has expressed the idea of giving London a Super Bowl, which I am for, if they do it very carefully. Football is America's Game. America is losing it's own game, but if it gets some more fans, it will all be worth it. However, if America says to England "You're gonna watch NFL Football and you're gonna love it more than English Football", then their whole strategy will backfire. How will England react to America getting a Super Bowl? They will probably react the much differently than the way America reacted to the news that David Beckham was coming to America to play Soccer in Major League Soccer for the Los Angeles Galaxy. England and Europe has never really cared about NFL Football. Maybe if we give them a Super Bowl or a matchup with two really good teams playing each other, maybe that will change. The NFL Europa League shut down due to lack of talent. If England got the Colts and the Patriots to play each other in England, that would draw much more fanfare than one winless team playing a slightly better team. The NFL is willing to do anything to get some new fans, so let's see two good teams play each other in London.
Back to the actual game, New York's defense is performing better than I think anyone could have expected. I think Miami's team is much worse than anyone could have expected, and the fact they are talking about Ricky Williams yet again shows how badly the Dolphins are this season. I expect the New York Giants to win this game because of their defense.
NEW YORK GIANTS OVER MIAMI
Oakland at Tennesee 1:00 PM EST
Rob Bironas tied an NFL Record in the first half of the game by making five field goals. He made three more, including the game winner, to set a new NFL Record with Eight field goals in a game. I expect Tennesee to win, whether or not Vince Young is healthy. Kerry Collins has always been a good veteran backup, and he proved that against Houston as he did just enough to give Tennesee the victory.
TENNESEE OVER OAKLAND
Philladelphia at Minnesota 1:00 PM EST
This game features two excellent running backs. Brian Westbrook versus Adrian Peterson for the Vikings. Philladelphia has underperformed so badly this season. Donovan McNabb has not helped himself get off the hot seat, as he has had another mediocre season. Hopefully, he is able to stay healthy for the whole season, otherwise that will be the final straw that breaks the camel's back. I expect the Eagles to win this game. Next Sunday Night, the Eagles play the Dallas Cowboys, who are off this week.
PHILLY OVER MINNESOTA
LATE GAMES
Cincinnati at Pittsburgh 4:05 PM EST
This is always a big AFC North battle. Pittsburgh is coming off a last second defeat to the Denver Broncos. cincinnatti is coming off a victory over the Jets.Chad Pennington faces Carson Palmer, two good quarterbacks going at it. Pittsburgh wins this game because of defese.
PITTSBURGH OVER CINCINNATTI
BUFFALO AT NEW YORK JETS 4:05 PM EST
Trent Edwards and J.P. Losman are currently slugging it out for the Starting Quarterback job in Buffallo. If Trent Edwards can hold continue performing well, he will make J.P. Losman pack his bags to become the starting quarterback somewhere else. If thomas Jones and Marshawn Lynch both find daylight, the runing game will be how those teams win the game.
NEW YORK JETS OVER BUFFALO
Houston at San Diego 4:15 PM EST
This game will still go on despite the raging wildfires in California. The Chargers practiced in Arizona this week while the league was deciding what to do with this game. I think San Diego will win this game. Their gearts are heavy watching those wildfires, and they are going to want to perform well in front of their fans, many of which are hurting with them.
SAN DIEGO OVER HOUSTON
Jacksonville At Tampa Bay 4:15 PM EST
Jacksonville has a major question mark as to who will be their quarterback as David Gerrard is injured. Quinn Gray may end up starting for the Jaguars this week. If jacksonville can keep running the ball as well as they did two weeks ago against Houston, they will win the game. Jeff Garcia has revitalized the Bucs. I go with Tampa Bay because they are not dealing with the injury bug, but if jacksonville can continue running the ball well, they will win this game.
TAMPA BAY OVER JACKSONVILLE
New Orleans at San Francisco 4:15 PM EST
Alex Smith may be back quarterbacking the 49ers this week. If he does, he will provide the 49ers with leadership they have been so badly missing. Frank Gore, the prolific 49ers running back, called out his team this week for not trusting their offensive coordinator. this game really could go either way. I pick the Saints because of Drew Brees and Reggie Bush. If those two have good numbers, the Saints will win the game.
NEW ORLEANS OVER SAN FRANCISCO
Washington At New England 4:15 PM EST
New England will win this game. They are too much on fire to lose this game. Tom Brady set a new career high in Touchdown Passes against the Dolphins last week with six touchdown passes. New England will use this game as target Practice for when they play the Colts next Sunday.
NEW ENGLAND OVER WASHINGTON
SUNDAY NIGHT
Since there is no Sunday Night Football this week due to Game Four of the World Series taking place that night, I've decided to use this space to blog about the World Series to this point. The series shifts to Colorado Saturday and Sunday. The Colorado Rockies needs a win Saturday Night to keep hope alive to win the World Series. On Saturday Night, Josh Fogg opposes Daisuke Mastuzaka. Jon Lester, the best individual story in baseball this season, will be opposed by Aaron Cook for the Rockies. David Ortiz will play first base due to there being no Designated Hitter in the National League. I feel like picking a winner to this game. I expect Colorado to win one of these two games, but I still expect the final result of the 2007 World Series to be:
BOSTON OVER COLORADO
Monday Night Football
Packers vs. Broncos 8:30 PM EST
While I am on the subject of the World Series, if Colorado is able to win one of the games on Saturday or Sunday, Game Five of the World Series will be at Coors Field in Denver. Less than a mile away in Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium, the home of the Denver Broncos. I expect Boston to wrap up Game Five of the World Series on Monday Night (Josh Beckett is on the mound for the Red Sox, opposed by Jeff Framcis.) I also expect Green Bay to beat Denver on Monday Night Football.
GREEN BAY OVER DENVER
If you studied and did your homework, you passed the midterm! Congratulations! Enjoy Your Sunday!

Red Sox win Game Two Of the 2007 World Series 2-1
There's more than one way to rough up the Rockies.
Boston's big bats battered them in the World Series opener. Then October ace Curt Schilling and a stingy bullpen shut down Colorado in Game 2.
Relying more on guile than pure gas, Schilling pitched Boston to a 2-1 victory Thursday night and a 2-0 lead in the World Series over the suddenly stagnant Rockies.
Lowell hit a tiebreaking double in the fifth and the Red Sox got 3 2-3 innings of shutout relief from Hideki Okajima and Jonathan Papelbon to win their sixth straight Series game, including a sweep of St. Louis in 2004.
That victory ended an 86-year title drought and set off a wild winter of celebrations all over New England. Two more wins this year and the party's on again.
The Series shifts to spacious Coors Field for Game 3 on Saturday night, when $103 million rookie Daisuke Matsuzaka pitches for Boston against Josh Fogg.
With no designated hitter allowed, the Red Sox must decide whether to play hobbling slugger David Ortiz at first base or leave his mighty bat on the bench.
If they keep getting this kind of pitching, it might not matter.
Game Three of the 2007 World Series is Saturday Night on Fox.

Red Sox Win Game One of 2007 World Series 13-1
Josh Beckett had his good stuff, and he was backed all around by the Red Sox offense.
Josh Beckett, Dustin Pedroia and the Boston Red Sox were revved up and ready. Not so the Colorado Rockies, who lurched into Beantown with all the zip of a creaky old stagecoach.
Back in the World Series with no Bambino's curse to worry about, the Red Sox flattened the Rockies 13-1 in Wednesday night's opener.
Beckett got off to the most overpowering start since Sandy Koufax, Pedroia became only the second player to lead off the Series with a home run, and then a relentless offense led by Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz racked up hit after hit.
Boston set a record for runs and victory margin in an opener and finished with 17 hits, becoming the first club with eight doubles in a Series game since 1925. After taking a 6-1 lead against Colorado ace Jeff Francis, the Red Sox piled on seven runs in the fifth, when Rockies reliever Ryan Speier walked three straight batters with the bases loaded - the first time that ever happened in the Series.
Make no mistake, these Red Sox are slick, and not just because of an on-and-off drizzle that seemed to dampen the noise from 36,733 fans in Fenway Park. Counting their comeback from a 3-1 deficit against Cleveland in the AL championship series, the Red Sox have outscored opponents 43-6 in their last four games. In the first five innings against Colorado, the Red Sox were 11-for-15 (.733) when batting with two outs.
Game Two of the 2007 World Series is tonight on Fox.

The 2007 World Series Starts Tonight!
Game One of the 2007 World Series starts tonight on Fox. The Boston Red Sox will play the Colorado Rockies in the World Series. Josh Beckett pitches for the Red Sox tonight, while Aaron Cook pitches for the Rockies.
The Red Sox have the offense and pitching. If Big Papi, Manny, and Josh Beckett don't deliver, the Red Sox will be in trouble. The Rockies have everything else.Troy Tulowitski headlines this young ballclub that have their heads as high as the Rocky Mountains. The Rockies Pitching has an Earned Run Average under four, and when you consider where the Rockies play, at Coors Field, that is a mindblowing statistic. However, unlike the Rockies who have caught lightning in a bottle to win 21 of their last 22 games, the Red Sox have been the best team in baseball since Day One. That being said, I expect this to come down to pitching and defense. I pick the Red Sox to win the 2007 World Series in Seven Games.
Watch the 2007 World Series on Fox.

Kuckleballer Tim Wakefield left off World Series Roster
Knuckleballer Tim Wakefield is being left off Boston's roster for the World Series because of a bad shoulder.
The 41-year-old Wakefield fought through back problems late in the season and was kept off the roster for the first-round series against the Los Angeles Angels. He has pitched once since Sept. 29, allowing five runs in 4 2-3 innings in Game 4 of the AL championship series against the Cleveland Indians.
Wakefield was 17-12 with a 4.76 ERA in the regular season.
Also Tuesday, Red Sox manager Terry Francona said Jacoby Ellsbury would start Game 1 in center field in place of Coco Crisp.
Crisp struggled in the playoffs and was replaced in the lineup for Games 6 and 7 against Cleveland, and he also banged into the wall catching the final out of the ALCS.

The Boston Red Sox Have Won The American League Pennant!
Click on the video to see the final out of the game.
Three years after ending its 86-year title drought, Boston completed another October comeback by overpowering the Cleveland Indians 11-2 Sunday night in Game 7 of the AL championship series.
Having rallied from a 3-1 deficit against Cleveland, the Red Sox now play the streaking Colorado Rockies starting Wednesday night in Boston.
This time, the Red Sox are bringing a bunch of guys who weren't around for the fun when they won it all in 2004.
"We've never been through this. This is on the biggest stage," said rookie second baseman Dustin Pedroia, who hit his first postseason homer and drove in five runs.
"We worked too hard all year long to have our season get cut short. Nobody wanted to go home, nobody wanted to say goodbye to everybody. So once we got that win in Cleveland, brought us back here, we started to believe."
Matsuzaka pitched five solid innings, and Okajima and Jonathan Papelbon each threw two scoreless innings in relief. Boston also got some help by a key blunder by an Indians base coach when Cleveland trailed just 3-2 with a chance to tie the game.
After digging out of a 3-0 hole against the Yankees in the '04 ALCS, the Red Sox needed three straight wins to advance this time. The Rockies, who have won 10 in a row and 21 of 22, will come back from a record eight days off.

MINNESOTA AT DALLAS 1:00 PM EST
Adrian Peterson had a career day last week against Chicago. Dallas is coming off a loss to New England. I expecct Dallas to come back hungry after the loss to New England last week. If Dallas can shut down the run, they will win this game.
DALLAS OVER MINNESOTA
NEW ENGLAND AT MIAMI 1:00 PM EST
The 1972 Miami Dolphins are the only team in NFL History to win every game they played in a season. There has never been a team to lose every game they played in a season. Could Miami be the first team to do this? Could one of their years become syninymous with abseloute greatness (1972) while another becomes synonymous with abseloutely sucking (2007) What a way to remember the 35th aniversary of that 1972 Dolphins team! Miami will not beat New England.

SAN FRANCISCO AT NEW YORK GIANTS 1:00 PM EST
Whenever a Weat Coast Team meets up against a team from the East Coast, the game all of a sudden becomes an "East vs. West Supremacy match." This game will be no different. The loss of Alex Smith hurts San Francisco's chances in this game. New York Giants win this game.

You know Vince Young wants to play in this game. The Texans defense still has nightmares over that game winning 46 yard touchdown run they gave up to him in overtime to win the game for the Titans. Young will cause Houston fans to say yet again: Why didn't we draft Vince Young?

CHICAGO AT PHILLADELPHIA 4:15 PM EST
When this game is played again in 2009, will Donovan McNabb be wearing a Bears Uniform? If Chicago's defense plays better than they did last week against Minnesota, they will win this game. Brian Urlacher said that in order for the Bears to make the playoffs, the Bears would have to go 8-2. They can take a small step torward that big goal by winning against the Eagles.

The Boston Red Sox defeated the Cleveland Indians 12-2 in Game Six of the 2007 American League Championship Series. J.D. Drew got the ball flying as he hit a grand slam to get the Red Sox off and running 4-0. In the top of of the second inning, Victor Martinez hit a homerun that styed just inside the Pesky Pole for a homerun to make it 4-1. Boston went on to score eight more times in the game compared to Cleveland scoring once for the rest of the game. Game Seven of the American League Championship Series is tommorow at Fenway Park in Boston. Daisuke Mastuzaka pitches for the Red Sox in game Seven, and Jake Westbrook pitches for Cleveland in the final baseball game until Wednesday, when Game One of the World Series gets under way. Trent Green will not return to Dolphins this season
Trent Green's season is over. Will his career follow?
The Miami Dolphins have placed Trent Green on the Injured Reserve list, ending his 2007 season.
Green had undergone tests this week and last week to determine the extent of damage done by his second major concussion in as many seasons. His latest concussion was deemed a Grade 3 concussion after his head collided with the knee of Houston Texans defensive tackle Travis Johnson.
Green is in his first season as a starter for the 0-6 Dolphins after reuniting with former position coach Cam Cameron.
While he has not yet made the decision on his future, there has been debate over whether or not Green should retire.
Trent Green should retire, without question. This is his second concussion in two seasons. For Trent's heealth, he should retire. The Dolphins made the smart move in shutting down Trent Green. He wasn't going to help them much this season anyway.
Curt Schilling pitching tonight for Red Sox in game Six
Curt Schilling pitches tonight in his first Game Six since "The Bloody Sock Game", Game Six of the 2004 American League Championship Series,
In Game Five on Thursday Night, Josh Beckett, blocking out everything but Jason Varitek's target, dominated the Cleveland Indians for the second time and Manny Ramirez drove in the go-ahead run with a 390-foot single as the Red Sox stayed alive in the AL championship series with a 7-1 win Thursday night in Game 5.
Kevin Youkilis set the tone with a first-inning homer off C.C. Sabathia. The Red Sox, trailing 3-2, sent the best-of-seven series back to Fenway Park to continue a season that was on the brink of being canned for the cold New England winter.
The Red Sox - and Beckett - have done this before. And clearly, Ramirez & Co. cared.
"We weren't trying to win three games in one night," Youkilis said. "We were just going out there to play the game, go out there and fight and do whatever we had to do to win."
In 2004, Boston rallied from an 0-3 deficit to win the 2004 ALCS against the New York Yankees and went on to sweep the St. Louis Cardinals in four straight for its first World Series title since 1918.
Tonight in Game Six of the American League Championship Series, Curt Schilling pitches in his first Game Six since "The Bloody Sock Game" Game Six of the 2004 American League Championship Series. Fausto Carmona pitches for the Indians. The Red Sox have to win to force a seventh game, which would be played on Sunday Night at Fenway Park in Boston.

Joe Torre holds news conference, explains why he left
Joe Torre held a news conference on Thursday to explain why he walked away from the New York Yankees.
Joe Torre knew he wasn't wanted back. Even in those final few moments, as he sat in George Steinbrenner's office and listened to the New York Yankees' offer, he hoped there was a way he could stay on as manager. But when the team submitted a one-year contract with a hefty pay cut, performance-based bonuses — and no room to negotiate — Torre was insulted and figured he had no choice but to walk away.
Sitting at a desk before a backdrop of Yankees navy blue — but no logo behind him — Torre admitted he was uncomfortable and nervous talking about himself, though he took questions for about an hour.
His voice trembled at times, especially when he spoke of his players, as his wife and sister stood by his side. Torre said his 12 years with the Yankees were the best time of his professional life, but he hasn't ruled out managing elsewhere.
Torre turned down a $5 million, one-year contract — $2.5 million less than he made this season, when New York failed to make it past the first round of the playoffs for the third straight year.
First, he wanted a face-to-face meeting with team management, saying he thought that was important. So Torre took a morning flight Thursday to Tampa, Fla., with general manager Brian Cashman, who had told him of the club's offer Wednesday night.
Cashman asked Torre if he was taking the trip to make a deal or say goodbye. Torre said he wasn't sure.
Torre walked into Steinbrenner's office at Legends Field and listened to the offer in a meeting that lasted about 20 minutes. The deal on the table never changed. He said he couldn't accept it, shook hands and left.
It is the end of an era in New York. Joe Torre will no longer manage the New York Yankees. I fully expect Joe Torre to do what Lou Pinella did for one season before he went over to the Cubs and do some television work.
Joe Torre is no longer in New York. How many will follow him out the door?

The Joe Torre Era Is Over In The Bronx
Joe Torre will not manage the Yankees in 2008.
Joe Torre is out as manager of the New York Yankees, rejecting a substantial pay cut after the team failed to make it past the first round of the playoffs for the third straight year.
Torre turned down a $5 million, one-year contract Thursday — $2.5 million less than he made last season.
Rather than put up with the indignity of a salary slap coupled with a performance-based contract, the man who led the Yankees to playoff appearances in all 12 years he managed, walked.
Most Yankees fans could see this day coming.
After losing the first two playoff games to Cleveland, owner George Steinbrenner said he didn't think Torre would be asked back if the Yankees didn't advance.
The 67-year-old Torre, who took over the team to start the 1996 season, made his decision after traveling from New York to the team's spring training complex in Tampa, Fla., and meeting with Steinbrenner, the owner's sons and top executives for about an hour. He was accompanied by Cashman and chief operating officer Lonn Trost.
New York's offer included $3 million in bonuses if the Yankees reached next year's World Series and an $8 million option for 2009 that would have become guaranteed if New York won the AL pennant.
Torre just completed a $19.2 million, three-year contract.
The Bronx now really Is Burning! Joe Torre is Outta Here, and with it, many of his players who were fiercely loyal to him may be out as well. A-Rod, Pettite, Posada, all vital players to the Yankees season, may all not come back to Yankee Stadium next season. If that is the case, the last posteason game to ever be played at "The House That Ruth Built" was that game four loss to the Indians. The Yankees will not make the playoffs next season. If all of their free agents don't come back, There is no way they will.
Truth be told, though, could you blame Joe Torre for walking away? He was getting less money, and it was only for a single year. Add to that the fact that he gets treated like he has no idea what he is doing whenever they lose, and I can understand why he would walk away. It's unbelievable to me how badly Joe was treated in New York! The guy has four World Series Championships(1996,1998, 1999, 2000) and two more appearances in the Fall Classic (2001, 2003), but he still got treated like he had no idea what he was doing! Joe didn't want to get treated badly anymore. That's why he walked away.
Who could replace Joe Torre as Yankee Manager? Tony La Russa, Joe Girardi, and Don Mattingly have all been offered as possiblities to replace him.
Don't forget about Game five of the American League Championship Series tonight on Fox. Josh Beckett pitches for the Red Sox in a must win game for them. C.C. Sabathia is on the mound for the Inidans tonight, and if they win, Cleveland wins the American League Pennant and faces the Colorado Rockies in the World Series.

Indians one game away from meeting up with Colorado in 2007 World Series
C.C. Sabathia will pitch the Indians into the World Series Thursday night with an Indians Victory.
Hang tight, Colorado Rockies. There's another team roaring through October.
And you just might see them in the World Series.
The Cleveland Indians, relying on a throwback pitcher who looks as if he stepped out of their 1948 team photo, moved one win from another crack at winning an elusive championship.
Pumping his arms with an old-school windup, Paul Byrd blanked Boston long enough and Casey Blake homered to start Cleveland's seven-run rampage in the fifth inning as the Indians beat the Red Sox 7-3 Tuesday night for a 3-1 lead in the AL championship series.
"We want to put them away here," Byrd said. "That's a great team over there. They can easily come back and win three. We're taking absolutely nothing for granted. We'll enjoy the win for now, but we want to put them away."
Just like those rockin'-and-rollin' Rockies, who are awaiting their next opponent, these Indians are soaring like a team of destiny.
Everything is falling Cleveland's way, and with a victory in Game 5 on Thursday night, the Indians will have another chance to bring this title-starved town something it hasn't seen since the Browns won it all in 1964.
The Indians, who knocked out the New York Yankees and their monstrous payroll in the first round of the playoffs, now have the free-spending Red Sox on the ropes. Even three straight homers couldn't rally Boston.
After a day off, the Indians will turn to ace C.C. Sabathia, their left-handed leader. Boston's Josh Beckett, who beat Cleveland in Game 1 at home, will try to send the series back to Fenway Park.

The Colorado Rockies Have Won The National League Pennant!
Click on the video below to see the final out of the game.
The Colorado Rockies are roaring into the World Series like no team before them.
With their 21st win in 22 games, the relentless Rockies beat the rattled Arizona Diamondbacks 6-4 in Game 4 Monday night to sweep the NL championship series at chilly Coors Field.
Series MVP Matt Holliday hit a three-run homer into the pine-filled rock pile in center field that capped a six-run outburst in the fourth inning, and Colorado was on its way.
Born as an expansion team in 1993, the wild-card Rockies are headed to their first World Series
The Rockies have a record eight days off before opening the World Series at either Cleveland or Boston on Oct. 24. The Indians lead the ALCS 2-1.
With their delirious fans waving brooms and towels, the Rockies joined the 1976 Big Red Machine as the only teams to start a postseason with seven straight wins. Colorado has won 10 in row overall and lost only once since Sept. 16.
There is still baseball to be played. Game Four of the American League Championship Series is tonight on Fox. Tim Wakefield pitches for the Red Sox, Paul Byrd opposes him for Cleveland.

Week Six NFL Preview
Tom Brady leads the undefeated New England Patriots into Dallas to take on the undefeated Cowboys.
Week Six of the NFL Season is about to get under way. Here's a preview of every game with analysis and a pick of the winner.
UPDATE: THIS BLOG POST WAS UPDATED MONDAY, OCTOBER 15TH, WITH ALL THE SUNDAY SCORES.
EARLY GAMES
CINCINNATI AT KANSAS CITY 1:00 PM EST
Cincinnati is coming off their bye week. They lost to the Patriots two weeks ago on Monday Night Football. Kansas City is coming off a loss to Jacksonville. Kansas City has just not looked good this season. They are a shell of themselves both offensively and defensively. Kansas City made the smart move in getting rid of Trent Green, but Damon Huard has struggled for the Chiefs. The Chiefs may bring in Brodie Croyle near the end of the season if they fall out of playoff contention. Cincinnati is also falling apart. Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson were both yelling at each other during the Monday Night game after Johnson quit on a route he was supposed to run. This really is a toss up. I'll go with Kansas City because they are at home. If Rudi Johnson is not back for the Bengals for this game, that should wrap up the victory for the Chiefs.
KANSAS CITY OVER CINCINNATI
KANSAS CITY DEFEATS CICNINNATI 27-20.
HOUSTON AT JACKSONVILLE 1:00 PM EST
This is always a big AFC South matchup. This matchup for Houston isn't quite as big as Indy vs Houston, but it's up there on it's own. Fred Taylor may miss the Houston game. Travis Johnson should have been fined for his comments about Trent Green last week, but he apologized for his comments later and that may be why he wasn't fined. David Garrard has really good for Jacksonville. This is another toss up. If Houston has to depend on Kris Brown to kick five field goals for them this week, Houston will be in trouble. I go with Houston, but only if they start scoring touchdowns when they get in the red zone.
HOUSTON OVER JACKSONVILLE
JACKSONVILLE DEFFEATS HOUSTON 37-17.
MIAMI AT CLEVELAND 1:00 PM EST
Miami is winless this season. The Browns are coming off a loss to the Patriots last week. Cleveland will win this game they are at home, and because Miami has just not been able to get anything going right for them this season.
CLEVELAND OVER MIAMI
CLEVELAND DEFEATS MIAMI 41-31.
MINNESOTA AT CHICAGO 1:00 PM EST
Chicago is coming off a last minute victory over the Packers on Sunday Night Football. Minnesota is coming off a bye week. Two weeks ago, the Vikings secondary watched helplessly as Brett Favre became the all time leader in touchdown passes and pass attempts. Minnesota vs Chicago is always a big NFC North Rivalry, no matter where they are in the standings. Ironically, Chicago and Minnesota rank second to last and dead last, respectively, in season record. Chicago may have saved their season with their victory over Green Bay. Chicago will keep the good times as they will beat Minnesota.
CHICAGO OVER MINNESOTA
MINNESOTA DEFEATS CHICAGO 34-31.
PHILADELPHIA AT NEW YORK JETS 1:00 PM EST
Two weeks ago, at The Meadowlands, The Philadelphia Eagles were destroyed by the Sack Machine of the rabid New York Giants defense. Michael Strahan became the all time sack leader in Giants History, passing Lawrence Taylor. Philadelphia has not played a game since then, as they are coming off a bye week. The New York Jets are coming off a victory against their rival New York Giants Last Sunday. This game really could go either way. If Donovan McNabb has a good game, Philly wins this game. Chad Pennington has struggled this season as the Jets Quarterback, and he may soon be replaced by Kellen Clemens if he keeps struggling. I go with the Eagles because the Jets have just not looked that good this season.
PHILLY OVER NEW YORK JETS
PHILLY DEFEATS NEW YORK JETS 16-9.
ST LOUIS AT BALTIMORE 1:00 PM EST
The Ravens will win against the winless St Louis Rams. The Rams are just one big train wreck right now, and they are not able to stop the bleeding. Baltimore wins.
BALTIMORE OVER ST LOUIS
BALTIMORE DEFEATS ST. LOUIS 22-3.
TENNESSEE AT TAMPA BAY 1:00 PM EST
Tampa Bay is coming off a loss to the Colts. Tennessee is coming off a win against Atlanta. Vince Young struggled in last weeks game against Atlanta, but the defense bailed him out, as they made the play of the game by returning an interception for a touchdown. Vince Young's struggles may continue this week, and the defense will have to be able to bail him out. I go with Tennessee because their defense will bail Vince Young out if he gets into trouble.
TENNESSEE OVER TAMPA BAY
TAMPA BAY DEFEATS TENNESEE 13-10.
WASHINGTON AT GREEN BAY 1:00 PM EST
Washington is coming off a win over Detroit. Green Bay is coming off a loss to their rival Chicago. This is another toss up game. I go with Washington because they have the Hall Of Fame Coach in Joe Gibbs, and Jason Campbell has really looked like a star under center under Washington.
WASHINGTON OVER GREEN BAY
WASHINGTON DEFEATS GREEN BAY 17-14.
LATE GAMES
CAROLINA AT ARIZONA 4:15 PM EST
If David Carr does not start this game, this becomes the battle of the Old-Timers. The forty-four year old Vinny Tstaverde taking on thirty-six year old Kurt Warner. The Panthers are coming off a victory over the New Orleans Saints. The Cardinals are coming over the Rams. Kurt Warner will remain the starter for the rest of the season after Matt Leinart broke his collarbone in the game last week. This is another toss up. I'll go with Arizona. Arizona looked pretty good against Pittsburgh, and they may look good against the inconsistent Panthers. This game will be a good Old-Timers Quarterback duel if Testaverde starts.
ARIZONA OVER CAROLINA
CAROLINA DEFEATS ARIZONA 25-10.
NEW ENGLAND AT DALLAS 4:15 PM EST The Game Of The Week
Tom Brady leads the undefeated New England Patriots into Dallas to take on the undefeated Dallas Cowboys. This is one of the games I was looking forward when the schedule was first announced. The Patriots are coming off a victory over Cleveland. The Cowboys are coming off an amazing last second victory over the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. What did the Dallas game teach me about America's Team? Here's some things I saw about this game.
This Cowboy Team is a very resilient, refusing to give up.
This Cowboys team could have easily caved in when Tony Romo's first two interceptions were returned for touchdowns, but they didn't. They could have given up when Romo threw his fifth interception and fumbled the ball in the fourth quarter, but they didn't. This Cowboy team refused to give up. Terrell Owens was the sidelines encouraging Tony Romo, telling to not give up. Romo did not give up and this team did not give up, even when it seemed that Murphy's Law was in full effect. Everything that could go wrong for the Cowboys seemingly did, but this Cowboy team refused to give up and that's why they won the game.
We May be seeing a new Terrell Owens, at least for one week.
As I mentioned above, Terrell Owens remained positive throughout the whole game, refusing to give up. Terrell Owens did something he has never done before, he skipped a press conference and left for the reporters saying he didn't want to talk about the game, telling the reporters in the note to "Getcha Popcorn Ready." Terrell Owens is remaining positive about his team and his quarterback, and hopefully he does well on the field as well.
Terrell Owens will be going up against Rodney Harrison, the best safety in the NFL. I cannot wait for the New England-Dallas Game. To all of you who are saying "Dallas has no chance to win this game" remember that Dallas knocked off an undefeated team last season at Texas Stadium. The Cowboys defeated the Indianapolis Colts last season. I'm gonna be honest, I did not pick Dallas to win that game last year, but they did. I'm also not picking Dallas to win this Sunday, but they are good enough to use all of the lessons from the Buffalo game to pull the upset.
NEW ENGLAND OVER DALLAS
NEW ENGLAND DEFEATS DALLAS 48-27.
OAKLAND AT SAN DIEGO 4:15 PM EST
California fans are really mad that they will not be able to see the New England-Dallas game. Instead they will watch two mediocre teams go at it. San Diego is coming off a beatdown of the Denver Broncos. Oakland is coming off a bye week. Two weeks ago, Daunte Culpepper was a one man show for the Raiders as he passed for two two touchdowns and ran for three more as Oakland defeated the winless Miami Dolphins. I'll go with San Diego for this game, Daunte Culpepper will not have a week like that again.
SAN DIEGO OVER OAKLAND
SAN DIEGO DEFEATS OAKLAND 28-14.
SUNDAY NIGHT
NEW ORLEANS AT SEATTLE 8:30 EST
Shaun Alexander faces off against Reggie Bush. The Seahawks play the winless Saints. Seattle wins.
NEW ORLEANS DEFEATS SEATTLE 28-14.
MONDAY NIGHT
NEW YORK GIANTS AT ATLANTA 8:30 EST
Will anybody that shows up to this game make their face visible? Will the Falcons Fans have to put paper bags over their heads in shame of how their team is doing? Giants win Monday Night.
Enjoy the games on Sunday! There is one Baseball Game on Sunday Night. Game Three of the National League Championship Series, Diamondbacks vs Rockies, is on. Livan Hernandez pitches for the Diamondbacks, who trail 0-2 in this series. Josh Fogg pitches for the Rockies, who are at home in this game. I'll be watching this game instead of the Sunday Night Football Game. I'll pick a winner to this game too, just because I want to.

Vinny Testaverde's NFL Career Not Quite Done yet
Believe it or not, Vinny Testaverde is back on an NFL Roster.
Vinny Testaverde won the Heisman Trophy the same year his new Carolina teammate Dwayne Jarrett was born. He was the No. 1 overall pick eight years before the Panthers entered the NFL.
He's thrown more passes than have been thrown in Carolina's history. He's also nearly four years older than his offensive coordinator.
Yet the soon-to-be 44-year-old Testaverde -- the man nicknamed "Dad" by his new teammates -- could start Sunday for the banged-up Panthers at Arizona.
This move really suprises me. Vinny Testaverde always seens to come back as a backup on an NFL Team. Who's next to come back as a quaterback? Could an NFL Team use the Canadian Football Dropkicking skills of Doug Flutie? Would another team attempt to get that cannon arm of Drew Bledsoe out of retirement? Heck, you might as well give George Blanda a call and see if he wants to come back and play for a 27th NFL Season. Okay, I'm kidding on that last one, but I'm sure you get my point. "Grandpa Vinny", as I like to call him, needs to retire and stay retired. I know all of you Vinny fans are gonna say, "Well, at least they got somebody." Surely, they could have gotten an undrafted Free Agent off the roster, not Vinny Testaverde.
Vinny Testaverde will get another contract to warm the pine for a more deserving rookie. Come on Vinnie, retire already!

Was this the end of the Joe Torre era in the Bronx?
Joe Torre and Mariano Rivera may both not be back in pinstripes next season.
The New York Yankees are making a dangerous move. George Steinbrenner may soon announce the firing of Joe Torre as Yankee Manager due to another first round playoff exit. If Joe Torre leaves, a whole lot of Current Yankees who next season may be reguarded as former Yankees. Mariano Rivera, Alex Rodriguez, Andy Pettite, and Jorge Posada are some of the big names who may not be back with the Yankees Next season, and some of it (at least) depends on whether or not Joe Torre comes back as Yankee Manager.
If George Steinbrenner stays true to his word, and Torre is fired, who will replace him? Tony La Russa lat week was asking his coaches if any of them would want to move with him should another job become available. Tony LaRussa will not say whether or not he will return to St. Louis because he wants to see how the situation plays out in New York. Joe Girardi, who led a Florida Marlins club many people thought would lose 100 games, to the playoff hunt until the final week of the season in 2006. Girardi has been broadcasting since then, and he turned down the Baltimore Orioles job when it became available. Yankees Bench Coach Don Mattingly and former Mets Manager Bobby Valentine have also been hinted as possibilities.
All of these names sound good, but the one that sounds the best is, without question, Joe Torre. Torre has led the Yankees to the postseason 13 straight times, and led the Yankees to four World Series titles. The Yankees run the risk of splitting the clubhouse and talent they want to resign (Rivera, Posada, A-Rod) may go elsewhere if Torre is fired.
If this was the end of the Joe Torre era in The Bronx, it will the end of an era to many other Yankees who are fiercely loyal to Joe Torre.

What A Great Monday Night!
Grady Sizemore put the Yankees in a hole they were never able to climb out of with his leadoff homerun.
What A Great Monday Night! We finally know who the Boston Red Sox will play in The American League Championship Series. The Cleveland Indians wrapped up the series, defeating the New York Yankees 6-4. Alex Rodriguez hit his first postseason homerun since Game Three of the 2004 American League Championship Series, but it wasn't enough. Congratulations to The Cleveland Indians, as they try to win their first World Series dince 1948, as they will play The Red Sox at Fenway Park for Game One On Thursday. We have a great pitching matchup in Game One of the American League Championship Series, as Josh Beckett gets the ball for The Red Sox opposed by C.C. Sabathia. Watch The American League Championship Series on Fox.
Another great game Monday Night was the Dallas Cowboys-Buffalo Bills game. This was Buffalo's first appearance on Monday Night Football in 13 years, and Buffallo certainly made good use out of it, intercepting Tony Romo five times, including four times in the first half. However, Dallas battled back to make it a ballgame. If you went to bed early, you missed one heck of an ending to this game! i had the original 24 seconds of the game of the game on The Power Zone as of Yesterday (Tuesday), but that video has now been removed. Nick Folk kicked the game finning 53 yard field goal twice (it was waved off one for a time out) and Dallas stuns Buffalo to stay undefeated, 25-24.

Season-ending elbow surgery for Delhomme
Jake Delhomme isn't the only Quarterback who may be out for a while.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme will miss the rest of the season after deciding to undergo surgery on his right elbow.
Coach John Fox said Monday that Delhomme had trouble throwing the ball earlier in the day. Delhomme then made the decision to have surgery next week.
Delhomme sustained what the team called a strained right elbow when he was sacked in Carolina's win over Atlanta on Sept. 23. David Carr replaced him the last two games, when Delhomme was listed as the No. 3 quarterback as he considered whether to have surgery.
Delhomme was off to a good start. He had completed 64 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns and one interception.
The move leaves the Panthers in need of another quarterback. Carr suffered a back injury in the Panthers' win over New Orleans Sunday and his status for next week's game at Arizona is uncertain.
There are so many quarterbacks out with injuries. Jake Delhomme, Matt Leinart, Trent Green. Green was injured on a nasty move by Travis Johnson kneeing Green in the helmet after Green tried to throw a block for Ronnie Brown. Leinart broke his collarbone on a sack by Will Witherspoon, meaning that the "Rotating Quarterback" system in Arizona is over, at least for now. Kurt Warner will once again become a starting quarterback.Delhomme was injured when he was sacked in Carolina's win over Atlanta on Sept. 23.
These injured quarterbacks had better hope their backups do a good job of keeping the seat warm for them, or their team's season may go down the tube with the injury.

The Arizona Diamondbacks and The Colorado Rockies will meet up in the National League Championship Series
The Diamondbacks contained The Cubs "Big Three" and outhit and outplayed The Cubs, and that's why they won this series.
Three solo home runs from Chris Young, Eric Byrnes, and Stephen Drew behind 6 innings pitched (1 run on 5 hits) from Liván Hernández, and 4 double plays turned on defense put Game Three out of reach for the Chicago Cubs who were swept out of the post-season by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
So, The Arizona Diamondbakcks and The Colorado Rockies are meeting in the National League Championship Series, which will begin on Thursday. Congratulations to the Arizona Diamondbacks. They've had a magnificent season, and they managed to sweep The Cubs in their house, Wrigley Field. Carlos Zambrano's next start will be opening day 2008, where the Same Old Chant of "Wait 'till Next Year" will be heard for the 100th time in Chicago.
Time for me for me to go off on the Cubs for a second.
Aramis Ramirez, Alfonso Soriano, and Derrek Lee. Where in the world was your plate disipline at? Did you leave it in Cincinnatti or something? My Goodness, every time you guys had runners in scoring position, you guys grounded into a double play, killing your chance to win. I'm not gonna fall for this again. If they manage to win the division next season, I'm not gonna take their season seriously until they get to the World Series. There was so much promise for their season, and now I remember something I should have remembered a long time ago: They're The Cubs. The Cubs continue to use that stupid excuse of "We're cursed by a billygoat" to explain why they have not won a World Series, and I'm sick of it. It's way too early to talk about the 2008 Baseball Season, particularly because the American League Championship Series has not been determined yet, although it may be by tonight, as Boston and Cleveland are both going for sweeps of Anaheim and New York.
Speaking of New York, Joe Torre is about to be fired as manager of the New York Yankees. He will either be fired or resign as Yankee Manager. New York is dead come game three, and even if they win tonight, they're still dead. George Steinbrenner may already be looking for a new manager of the Yankees. He just hasn't said it publicly yet.
Let's talk about their archrival, the Boston Red Sox. Congratulaions guys. You guys swept The Angels and you're about to face Cleveland in the American League Championship Series. Boston has been the best team in Baseball since day one of the 2007 Season. David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez may be about to bring home another World Series Pennant for the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox have the best rotation in Baseball, with Fireballer Josh Beckett, Wise Pitcher Curt Schilling, Japaneese Import Daisuke Mastuzaka, and knuckleballer Tim Wakefield (Wakefield had a bad back, so he was not on the Red Sox American League Divisional Series roster.)
There are my random thoughts and feelings on the Divisional Series of the Baseball Postseason so far.
My Picks for the World Series: Boston meets Arizona in the World Series and beats them in five games.

Cubs Postseason Hopes Rest Tonight on Rich Hill
Rich Hill pitches for the Cubs tonight as they try to stay alive in the National League Divisional Series.
The Red Sox 6-3 win over the Angels came off Manny Ramirez's walk-off homer in the ninth inning. That gave Boston a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-five playoff round, joining Cleveland, Arizona and Colorado, which also won the first two games of their respective series.
But there is hope for this year's teams down 0-2. One of those teams did rally in 1995 to win its series, and that was the Mariners. After losing the first two games in New York, the scene shifted to the Emerald City for games 3-4-5 (back then, that was the format instead of the 2-2-1 schedule now used).
The Mariners won Game 3, 9-4, then stunned the Yanks with a five-run eighth to win Game 4, 11-8. Game 5 turned out to be a thriller, as the Yanks scored once in the top of the 11th to take a 5-4 lead, only to see the Mariners rally for two in the bottom of the inning to advance to the American League Championship Series.
That fact hasn't escaped Red Sox manager Terry Francona, who has espoused a "one game at a time" mentality dating back to the epic 2004 ALCS, when the Red Sox took it one game at a time to rally from a 3-0 deficit to take four straight from the Yankees.
He knows how to do it, and so does Cubs manager Lou Piniella, who finds his team in a 0-2 deficit against Arizona. Piniella was manager of that Seattle team which climbed out of that hole in 1995.
Rich Hill goes for The Cubs tonight as they try to stay alive. Lou Pinella has been in this 0-2 hole before- as the manager of the Mariners in 1995. Seattle won three in a row to advance to the American League Cahmpionship Series. Could he do it again for the Cubs here in 2007?
Watch The Cubbies attempt to come back tonight on TBS. Rich Hill is on the mound for the Cubs, and Livan Hernandez is on the mound for the Diamondbacks.
Week 5 NFL Preview
Brett Favre, one week after becoming the all time leader in Touchdown Passes, leads the undefeated Packers home to Lambeau Field to take on The Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football.
UPDATE: THIS BLOG POST WAS UPDATED ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7th WITH THE SCORES OF ALL OF THE SUNDAY GAMES UNTIL THE SUNDAY NIGHT GAME.
Week Five of NFL Season is about to kick off. Here's a preview of every game with analysis and a pick of the winner.
EARLY GAMES
MIAMI AT HOUSTON 1:00 PM EST
Miami is a bad team this season. Houston has dropped their last two games, one to The Colts and one to The Falcons, but I expect Houston to get back on track to win the game this week, Houston is better than Miami.
HOUSTON OVER MIAMI
HOUSTON DEFEATS MIAMI 22-18
JACKSONVILLE AT KANSAS CITY 1:00 PM EST
Jacksonville's running combo of Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew will burn rubber on the ground for Jacksonville. Kansas City came back from a 10 point defecit to beat The Minnesota Vikings last week. If Jacksonville can stop Larry Johnson, they will win this game, since Kansas City has no passing game.
JACKSONVILLE OVER KANSAS CITY
JACKSONVILLE DEFEATS KANSAS CITY 17-7
CLEVELAND AT NEW ENGLAND 1:00 PM EST
New England will win this game. Cleveland got a suprise victory over the Ravens last week. Expect a lot of running from Laurence Maroney and Passing from Tom Brady to Randy Moss. Oh Yeah, and to make it worse, Rodney Harrison makes his return to The Patriots in this game.
NEW ENGLAND OVER CLEVELAND
NEW ENGLAND DEFEATS CCLEVELAND 34-17
CAROLINA AT NEW ORLEANS 1:00 PM EST
David Carr will start for the Panthers for the second consecutive week. New Orleans is winless this season, while The Panthers are 2-2. New Orleans has no defense, and that's by far the biggest reason why the Saints are winless this season. Carolina wins this game, pushing The Saints to 0-5.
CAROLINA OVER NEW ORLEANS
CAROLINA DEFEATS NEW ORLEANS 16-13
NEW YORK JETS AT NEW YORK GIANTS 1:00 PM EST
The Battle Of New York. The New York Giants are coming off a record setting defensive performance against The Philladelphia Eagles last Sunday Night. If The Giants can bring as much pressure this week as they brought last week, Chad Pennington and Thomas Jones won't be able to get anything going, meaning the Giants win the game.
NEW YORK GIANTS OVER NEW YORK JETS
NEW YORK GIANTS DEFEAT NEW YORK JETS 35-24
SEATTLE AT PITTSBURGH 1:00 PM EST
This is a rematch of Super Bowl XL. Both of these teams are 3-1 on the season. Ben Rothelisberger has been on fire for The Steelers, and their defense has played well, although Troy Polamalu may not play for The Steelers this week. I'm gonna go with Pittsburgh. They have played well on offense and defense, and they will win the game.
PITTSBURGH OVER SEATTLE.
PITTSBURGH DEFEATS SEATTLE 21-0
ARIZONA AT ST LOUIS 1:00 PM EST
This is always a big matchup because of the history of these two teams. The Cardinals moved to St. Louis in 1960 after spending the previous 62 years in Chicago as the Chicago Cardinals. The Cardinals used to call St. Louis Home. Now The Cardinals call Arizona home. When you add in the "revolving door" Quarterback Carousel going on in both Arizona and St Louis, with Kurt Warner, the Quarterback of The Rams when they won Super Bowl XXXIV, starting the last two games for the Arizona Cardinals, and that St. Louis is benching Marc Bulger for Gus Frerrote, this will be a very good game. I'm gonna go with Arizona to win this game. The Rams have just totally underwhelmed this season, and the injury bug is the biggest reason why.
ARIZONA OVER ST. LOUIS
ARIZONA DEFEATS ST LOUIS 34-31
DETROIT AT WASHINGTON 1:00 PM EST
The Detroit Lions scored an NFL record 34 points in the fourth quarter to beat Chicago and spoil Brian Griese's debut as Bears Quarterback. Detroit will beat Washington in this game. Expect a lot of catches from Calvin Johnson in this game.
DETROIT OVER WASHINGTON
WASHINGTON DEFEATS DETROIT 34-3
LATE GAMES
TAMPA BAY AT INDIANAPOLIS 4:05 PM EST
Cato June will get a loud welcome back to Indianpolis by the home crowd. Marvin Harrison, and Joseph Addai may both not play in this game. Indianapolis has a lot of depth at running back and Wide Receiver, and they showed it last week aganst Denver. Indianapolis wins this game.
INDY OVER TAMPA BAY
INDY DEFEATS TAMPA BAY 33-14
SAN DIEGO AT DENVER 4:05 PM EST
What a sad story the San Diego Chargers have become. They have become muttered into obsuriry and have once again become one of the worst teams in the league. LaDanian Tomlinson finally rushed for 100 yards last week against Kansas City, but it wasn't enough as Kansas City beat San Diego 17-10. Denver will beat San Diego this week. Travis Henry, who is the NFL's leading rusher this season, will play this week but only because he is suing the NFL to prevent the result of his positive drug test from prevventing him from playing. Denver Beats San Diego in this game.
DENVER OVER SAN DIEGO
SAN DIEGO DEFEATS DENVER 41-3
BALTIMORE AT SAN FRANCISCO 4:05 PM EST
Alex Smith may not play in this game. This will be a good running attack on the ground for both teams, Willis McGahee for the Ravens and Frank Gore for the 49ers. Baltimore will come back with a vengance defesnively, and the Ravens will win this game.
BALTIMORE OVER SAN FRANCISCO
BALTIMORE DEFEATS SAN FRANCISCO 9-7
LATER GAMES
SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
CHICAGO AT GREEN BAY 8:15 PM EST (THE GAME OF THE WEEK)
One week after becoming The NFL's All time leader in Touchdown Passes and Pass Attempts, Brett Favre leads the undefeated Packers back home to Lambeau Field to take on the struggling Chicago Bears. Both of these always play each other hard becuse this is the biggest rivalry in the NFL. I'm gonna go with Green Bay because they are at home, but Chicago has a shot to win this game if their defense steps up and their offense starts to do better.
GREEN BAY OVER CHICAGO
MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
COWBOYS AT BILLS 8:30 PM EST
This is the first Monday Night Football Appearance for the Bills since their Super Bowl days of the 1990s. Marshawn Lynch has ran for a lot of yards his last couple of games, but I expect that streak to end against The Cowboys. Whoever starts for The Bills, J.P. Losman or Trent Edwards, will have a tough time staying on their feet as Dallas will bring pressure early and often.
DALLAS OVER BUFFALO
Enjoy Your Sunday and Watch the games! If The Cubs win tonight, I may skip Football and watch The Cubs-Diamonbacks Game Five on TBS. But before we talk about Game Five, The Cubs need to win game four just to avoid the sweep.

MLB Postseason taking unexpected Twists and Turns
Kenny Lofton had four RBI's in the Indians victory over the Yankees.
Through the first two games of the NLDS and the opening games of the ALDS, there have been some suprises. Arizona and their youngsters are one game away from going to the National League Championship Series, as they have tamed the Cubs offense to a dull roar through the first two games. Colorado Rockies as well are one game away from eliminating their opponent, the Philladelphia Phillies. Ryan Howard's homerun wasn't enough to overcome Kaz Matsui's Grand Slam in Game Two, as Colorado beat Philly by the score of 10 to 5.
Here's my analysis of the respective series.
NLDS: Cubs vs. Diamondbacks
Wow. How about the Arizona Diamondbacks. It seems like The "Fountain Of Youth" has been found. It's is Arizona, buried underneath Chase Field. The Diamondbacks players are young, most are only about 25 years old, and they are one game away from eliminating the $300 Million ballclub that has suffered for 99 (and possibly coming up on 100) years without a World Series Ring. The only good thing for the Cubs is that their next two games are at home. The Wrigley Crowd will be rocking, trying to modivate the Cubbies to fight to win three in a row to advance to the National League Championship Series. Rich Hill gets the ball for the Cubs in the all important game three, and he will be opposed by the former Montreal Expo Livan Hernandez. I hope the Cubs fight to pull even and win this thing, but I don't think it's going to happen.
NLDS: Rockies vs Phillies
The "Fountain of Youth" has also been found in Rocky Mountain High Coors Field in Denver Colorado. Rockies Superphenom Troy Tulowitski has been on a tear offensively and defensicely. Tulowitski and Todd Helton are the two reasons the Phillies are dead in this series. It would be good October baseball for them to come back, but I don't see that happening.
ALDS: Red Sox vs. Angels
Vlad Guererro has been hurt, and the Angels production has hurt without him. The loss of gary Matthews Jr. was the big reasdon why this team was doomed coming into this series. Daisuke Mastuzaka will make his postseason debut for the Red Sox in Game Three, where the Red Sox can sweep the Angels and move on to the American League Championship Series.
ALDS: Yankees at Indians
Derek Jeter went 0-4 in the Yankees loss to the Indians, but of course, the talk will be how Alex Rodriguez went hitless in what may be his final season with The New York Yankees. Chien Mien Wang did not have his good stuff in that game. I lost count how many homeruns were hit in that game. Cleveland Sports Fans will make a huge deal about LeBron James wearing a Yankee cap in Cleveland, but Red Sox Natrion has that same thing to be said to Tom Brady, a self-professed Yankee fan.
October Baseball is in full swing and you can catch all of it on TBS.

MLB Playoffs Preview!
Carlos Zambrano and Alfonso Soriano are on a mission to help deliver The Cubs a World Series Pennant.
I Live For This!
It's October, and that means that the postseason for Major League Baseball Season is about to get under way. Let's take a look at each series and the things that will have to happen for that team to go to the World Series.
NATIONAL LEAGUE DIVISIONAL SERIES
Philladelphia Phillies vs. Colorado Rockies
Analysis: The Colorado Rockies had to fight to make it here, and they did, scoring three runs, including the game winner, in the bottom of the 13th inning to beat San Deigo in a thrilling 9 to 8 finish in the one game playoff to decide the winner of the National League Wild Card. The Rockies are getting here thanks to the collapse of the San Diego Padres over the last two weeks. The Philladelphia Phillies are also getting here because of a monumental collapse over the last two weeks, they sat back and watched the New York Mets blow an 8 and a half game lead with two weeks to play to get eliminated from the playoffs. Both of these teams just got in at the last minute, and this will be a good series for both teams.
Keys To Victory
PHILLIES: No doubt, Ryan Howard is the key for the Phillies. If he's swinging the bat well, Philladelphia will win the series. If he's not, it will be that much harder for Philly to pull it out.
COLORADO: Troy Tulowitski will be the key for the Rockies, with the glove and the bat. Tulowtski got an unassisted triple play for the Rockies against the Braves, and he did a good job with the bat as well, batting near .300. He's gonna be key for the Rockies.
Your Winner
PHILLIES. The Phillies just seem to have more depth, more offense, and more defense, although The fact that Denver is the highest altitude in Baseball will help the Rockies out. Expect a lot of homeruns in this series. I go with The Phillies in five. I expect it to go back and fourth with the Phillies winning.
Phillies in Five.
Chicago Cubs vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
Analysis: This is the series that I'm waiting to see. The Cubs got hot after the Florida series and won the National League Central for the first time since 2003, when they were five outs away from going to the World Series before a monumental collapse cost them their chance to Break The Curse. Watch out for this young Diamondback team, particularly when Micah Owings is pitching (and hitting.)
Keys To Victory
CUBS: No doubt, the key for the Cubs will be scoring runs. Runs will be hard to score in Game One against Brandon Webb, so one run for either side may be enough to win a couple of the games.
DIAMONDBACKS: The Diamondbacks were everyone's unexpected team this season. Arizona seemed to get hot and stay hot nearly all season. The Diamondbacks don't have much of a rotation outside of Micah Owings and Brandon Webb, so they need to depend on the arms of the bullpen to help them win ballgames.
Your Winner
I've gotta go with the Cubs. I think this Cubs team is good enough to beat the Diamondbacks and face the Phillies in the NLCS. That would be a fantastic series. Perhaps the Cubs could go further than five outs away from going to the World Series this time around.
Cubs In Four
AMERICAN LEAGUE DIVISIONAL SERIES
Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim vs Boston Red Sox
Analysis: Game One is another marquee pitching matchup. Twenty Game winner Josh Beckett takes the mound for the Red Sox, while nineteen game winner John Lackey is on the mound for the Angels.
Keys To Victory
RED SOX: Outside of the Pitching, David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez are thr two biggest reasons why the Red Sox will be very hard to defeat. Ortiz and Manny were together in 2004 when the Red Sox won the World Series, and were in the playoffs again in 2005, when the White Sox defeated the Angels to advance to the American League Championship Series.
ANGELS: Vladamir Guererro and Garret Anderson will be tough to defeat. Andersson had 10 RBIs in an August win over the Yankees, and Vlad is the defending Home Run Derby Champion.
Red Sox in Four
New York Yankees vs. Cleveland Indians
Analysis: This will be a fantastic series as well. Chien Mien Wang will pitch Game One for the Yankees, and C.C. Sabathia will pitch for the Red Sox.
Keys To Victory
YANKEES: Alex Rodriguez will have his chance to erase his "Choke-Rod" label that comes with him every October.
INDIANS: The only Indian that has posteason experience is Trot Nixon, who was with the 2004 Boston Red Sox. Travis Hafner will be swinging for the fences. C.C. Sabathia and Paul Byrd will have to bring their A-Game to prevent a Yankee sweep.
Prediction:Yankees in Three.
My Picks.
ALCS: New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox
NLCS: Chicago Cubs vs. Philladelphia Phillies
The Major League Baseball Postseason begins tommorow! Don't miss a second of the exciting playoff action!
