Matt Schaub, formerly a backup of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, is now going to become a starter in the NFL. Schaub signed a 6 year $48 Million contract with the Houston Texans. Matt Schaub is the new starter meaning that David Carr is out of Houston.
I do not understand this deal at all. All Houston acquired was a slightly less arm, slightly less agile version of David Carr. This offseason goes back to the 2005 NFL Draft. The Texans did not select Vince Young or Reggie Bush and selected first round -bust Mario Williams. What was then General Manager Chalie Casserly's reason for selecting Mario Williams and not Reggie Bush? "We are in the same division as Peyton Manning. Let's not try to outgun him. Let's try to stop him." That statement has caused him to go back to doing television work.
The admission that they should have taken Reggie Bush came when the Texans acquired formerly good running back Ahman Green. The admission that they should have drafted a quarterback came when they signed Matt Schaub to this deal.
Back to the Matt Schaub offer, I do not care who you put behind center for Houston, David Carr or Matt Schaub or anyone else, they will spend many snaps being dropped on their head due to a horrible offensive line. David Carr was sacked 249 times during his tenure in Houston, an average of 50 sacks per season. Carr was sacked 76 times in his rookie season. I said it before, and I will say it again, There will never be enough asprin for David Carr to take to cure his days in Houston.
Add to that a teriible recieving corps (nothing behind Andre Johnson) and Houston was bad offensively last year.
Matt Schaub will enjoy the money until his first regular season game, when he gets dropped on his head five times.
