Sammy Sosa is training again to return to the big leagues. The 38 year old slugger, who is 12 shy of 600 homeruns, can hear the cheers of "Sammy! Sammy! Sammy!" in his head. Sammy says he hasn't felt this good since his rookie season, and also said that he has recieved calls from teams interested in signing him. Sammy has not played since the 2005 season, where he hit .221, hit 14 homeruns, and drove in 45 runs. In the 2006 season,Sammy Sosa turned down a $500,000 non-guaranteed contract from the Washington Nationals. However, Sosa said that if he got an offer this time, he would not turn it down because he wants to return to the Major Leagues. Sosa won the National League's Most Valuable Player award in 1998 (the season where he was neck and neck with Mark McGwire for the Single Season Homerun Chase.)
Sammy Sosa wants to return to the Major Leagues, and I hope he gets an opprutunity to come back. Sure, this may be some nostalgia on my part because I saw Sammy play at Wrigley Field, but anyway, I think Sammy hitting #600 would be good for him, for his team, and for baseball, and it could possibly put some of the Barry Bonds fiasco down in the Bay Area on the back burner for a little bit.
